How I Followed George Constanza’s Lesson On Business

I’m a big Seinfeld fan.

I think I’ve seen every episode at least a couple of times.

My favorite character is obviously George.

I loved how he described himself as a “short, stocky, slow-witted, bald man.”

And probably my all time favorite episode  is “The Opposite.”

In that episode, George decides to turn his life around by doing the exact opposite of what he would usually do.

He realizes that if he does the opposite of what he would normally do, his luck may change for the better.

And once he quits following his instincts, he finds himself with a job, girlfriend, and free of his parents.

It is just a brilliant, funny concept.

Do the exact opposite of what you think you should do.

And I think there is a business lesson in there.

And it is one that I’ve followed.

Modified slightly, of course.

What I do is look at what big corporations are doing, and I do the opposite.

Big Corporations:  Dump a ton of toxic chemicals into your products.

Me:  Clean using only water.

Big Corporations:  Make people buy products over and over forever, so that they can suck more money out of us.

Me:  A permanent paper towel, and a permanent replacement for detergent.

Big Corporations:  Get people sick, and then feed them pharmaceutical drugs forever and ever.

Me:  Me natural health through better nutrition.

I could go on.

But you get the point.

George may have been slow-witted.

But he was on to something.

Thank you again!

Marc
